Landscape Vessel with Black Rock No: 2

The rim on this piece represents the jagged edges of the cliff tops. Craggy rocks and fissures fascinate me and it’s the rugged landscape in the Southwest of Cornwall that captures my attention.

Cornwall is the place I run to when I need to escape from the city to the coast. On my coastal walks I am inspired by the geological process of erosion that naturally happens over a long period of time. I document and capture these fractures and crevices by taking photographs which I later refer to.

The rims of these vessels are pulled and ripped, allowing the clay to have some control. I gently push and stroke the rim to create these undulations, which creates a lovely movement in the final piece.

The white glaze is my abstract interpretation of coral and polyps. I take inspiration from the coastal landscape and use it in this abstract way by creating interesting surfaces but also a wonderful contrast between the two glazes which creates a striking finish.

Stoneware black clay, high fired. Non functional, decorative piece, this does not hold water.

Measurements approx (H21cm x W13cm)

Care instructions: Please take care when handling this product. The blisters can occasionally burst, this is the effect of the glaze. If this happens, all it needs is a little light sanding by hand to remove any sharp edges.
